This is true. While dugnad has deep roots in Norwegian culture, we probably wouldn't have had the same initial response if it weren't for the rhetoric communicated by the Prime Minister and her cabinet. It awoke a sense of national pride in people that they were doing their part in keeping Norway safe by participating in the dugnad. A stark difference from the States! I hope we change back to a more compassionate and passionate rhetoric soon back home.
